My Top 3 Priorities

  • Public safety: Keep experienced police officers in our neighborhoods by improving working conditions. Reopen our fire stations by reordering priorities and more imaginative staffing solutions. Address public nuisances via aggressive code enforceme
  • Protect our environment: Just say no (ie Bernie's "NO" to fracking) to unsafe oil trains carrying highly flammable crude through our communities. Seek "green" solutions to our energy, housing and transportation needs.
  • Transportation: Highway 4 is currently a parking lot. A 12,000 home city is scheduled to be built at Willow Pass on the old Naval Weapons Station.. The County must insist upon transportation alternatives including reopening Port Chicago Hwy.

Six generations of my family have lived and live in Contra Costa.  Returning home from an overseas US Army Infantry assignment, the sight of Mt. Diablo signaled on an emotional level that I was home.

I went to grade and high school in Contra Costa,  Earned an AA Degree from Diablo Valley College, BA from San Francisco State University and a Juris Doctor from Golden Gate University.

I have served as the Mayor of Martinez, School Board Member, Prresident of the Contra Costa Peace Officers Association and as a Deputy District Attorney in Contra Costa County.  I am more than familiar with quality of life issues confronting our communities.  As a Mayor and Local Agency Formation Commission Member I led the fight to preserve the Briones Agricultural Preserve and several major parks in Martinez.  I led the City in parnership with the East Bay Regional Park District to preserve the Franklin Hills Ridge Line and enhance our Carquinez Scenic Park.  As Chair of the Contra Costa Mayors Conference, I helped formulate the governence structure for the Contra Costa Transportation Authority.

I married my wife, Dusty, in Contra Costa and we are raising two beautiful daughters, Sophia and Madelyn.  We live in Martinez.

Currenly, I work as an Assistant District Attorney responsible for litigating violent crime cases that involve sanity and competency issues.

Political Philosophy

I regard serving as a member of your Board of Supervisors as both a priviledge and serious responsiblity.  A Board Member is responsible for safe guarding the quality of life interests of ALL our fellow ciitizens and is simply not a voice for special interest ... regardless of the interest group.

In my view, a Board Member must have the courage and integrity to do what is right by our community.  Both are important along with a commitment to transparency and accessiblity.  Every member of our community deserves to be heard.  Morreover, I have learned that neither a Mayor or a District Attorney can be effective unless they not only give folks an opportunity to be heard but also receive the curtesy of being LISTENED to by their reprresentative.

Also, as a military veteran, Assistant District Attorney responsible for prosecuting serious criminal cases and former Mayor, that in order to effectivly accomplish goals sought everyone must be able to work with others, respect their point of view and move forward in the spirit of that respect by accomodating their concerns whenever possible.
