Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters (3)

What would you do to increase the number of registered voters?
Answer from Emilie Gatfield:

Targeted voter outreach into communities with historically low voter engagement. Increased voter education; I believe many eligible voters are intimidated by the voter registration form and by the process of voting. Increased outreach into communities with low voter registration, particularly by engaging the frequent voters in those communities, would allow us to help facilitate the voter registration and engagement in those traditionally under represented communities.

How would you work to promote your party with the electorate?
Answer from Emilie Gatfield:

Increased outreach into communities with traditionally low voter engagement, which would help facilitate a higher turnout for elections, would make the Democratic Party the more inviting choice for many people. One important function is to ensure that community member and voters who reach out find someone they can relate to easily. No one should feel isolated by language, country of origin, or by any other factor. I also work with Democratic clubs throughout the state, to help them increase outreach into their communities.

Why did you become a member of this political party?
Answer from Emilie Gatfield:

The Democratic Party platform best fits my values. I believe that we all share in the benefits and responsibilities of our communities; no matter how independent we may believe ourselves to be, we all share the same infrastructure and services. Issues such as access to health care, including reproductive health care, equal pay for women, responsible environmental stewardship, protections for workers, and ensuring all views receive a fair voice in the process are very important to me; they are included in the Democratic Party platform. I have never considered becoming a member of any other political party.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

The best way to improve the quality of life in our vital, vibrant community is to make it as easy as possible for everyone in the community to contribute in some way. Voter engagement is one tool for such engagement, and, for many people, their only engagement. In some communities, voter registration and voter turnout is so low, the voice of the community is lost in public discourse. I believe that increased voter turnout will improve the quality of life for many in our county, and want to be part of making that happen. I hope to have your support and your vote.
