As Director or Voter Registration and Community Services for the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee (2007-2008), I've been a strong proponant of robust voter registration efforts year-round. I'm particularly concerned about low voter representation among communities of color and would advocate for increased outreach to these communities.
Of course, I also support county and statewide efforts to make voter registration as easy as possible, preferably automatic.
I believe the Democratic Party has work to do to attract new members and to make the case for why membership matters. I will advocate for clear, values-based messaging on what the Democratic Party stands for, and stands against. It is our responsibility as Democrats to invite unaffiliated voters to join us and to welcome their involvement.
I've been a life-long Democrat because the party's values align most closely with my own. It troubles me that so many new voters are choosing not to affiliate with a political party. I got politically active in 2003 and have been able to contribute in many different ways in a short time. I believe there is strength in numbers, and that the party system is the surest path to effective progressive change.
