Kevin L. Alston is a product of the Community College and advocate the working families to be able to afford the invaluable opportunity of attending a community college. As a five year resident of Talmadge and 32 resident of San Diego, I believe community needs to be put back in the title "Community College," and that is why I am seeking your support as Board of Trustee for the San Diego Community College District "D."

Currently working as an adjunct Business Professor with Southwestern College for more that 12 years. I possess first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of the San Diego Community College District by being an Adjunct Business Professor with San Diego Miramar College. In this role I was appointed to the Academic Senate Executive Board as a voting member, served as Equal Employment Officer on countless hiring committees, basic skills committee member, academic affairs committee member, college budget committee, Associated students representative, college accreditation committee, and was part of the college president’s council,


As a classified employee is served as the assistant to the vice chancellor of human resources, assistant to the president of Miramar College, assistant to the vice president of instruction of San Diego Miramar College, two terms as Classified Senate President, college Accreditation Committee, District United Way Coordinator, Travel Liaison for executive management and classified staff.


My educational background includes a pursuing a Doctorate in Management from Grand Canyon University (2017), awarded an MBA from the University of Phoenix with a focus on Global Strategic Management, awarded a BA from San Diego State University in Communication and received an AA in Speech/Communication from San Diego Mesa College.

I am a progressive educator, devoted to excellence in teaching and learning, life-long education; experience teaching a variety of courses in the business management discipline, including online, hybrid and face-2-face to a diverse population of students; with leadership skills and commitment to shared governance that will support academic goals of any institution.


Business Professional, with 25 plus years of experience in international business, management and administration, including increasing responsible supervisory and leadership assignments. Career highlights include marketing, global logistics management, foreign correspondent, newspaper editor, preschool owner, comedy clubs owner. I built many international military business community partnerships through being bi-lingual in English-Japanese.



Served my country as a Naval Journalist in the United States Navy. As a journalist I had the opportunity to interview Political Leaders, Presidents, Hollywood Celebrities and people of interest to the community.




On the personal level, I have lived in San Diego since 1984 and love being involved in the community to effect change. I have had the distinct pleasure of working on two political county and city campaigns, which provided me with the insight to run my own campaign. I am a father of two awesome children Xavier 19 and Sakurako 17 who are following in his foot-steps by enrolling at Southwestern College with aspirations to attend San Diego State University.




Because of them and many more influences I have become a very inspired and a highly motivated individual. I believe that in life, it is important to help others in any way possible. I also believe that hard work and perseverance are two keys to success. With these positive attributes I have been able to achieve many accomplishments in my professional, academic and political endeavors.
