My Top 3 Priorities

  • Rebuild San Diego's crumbling infrastructure
  • Invest in public safety
  • Grow our local economy to increase prosperity for all San Diegans

Mark Kersey has built a reputation as the city’s most vocal advocate for rebuilding San Diego. Since being sworn into office on the City Council in 2012, Mark has risen to become the Chairman of the Council’s Infrastructure Committee, establishing him as the City’s leader on infrastructure issues. In this role, Mark has worked to pave more roads, reform the way the city prioritizes project funding, and address the city’s billion-dollar infrastructure backlog. In December 2015, Mark unveiled his sweeping RebuildSD plan (on the June ballot as Prop H), which will dedicate $3-4 billion in the city’s infrastructure over the next 25 years, without the need for a tax increase.

Before he was elected to represent District 5, Mark founded a local independent research and consulting firm focused on the telecommunications and high-tech industries. As he helped grow businesses in the region, he got more involved in regional economic issues, which increasingly lead him to government. The policies government adopts are instrumental to the success of our small businesses, and their ability to create new good jobs.

In addition to chairing the City Council’s Infrastructure Committee, Mark is Vice Chairman of the Economic Development Committee, and a member of the Rules Committee. He is also a city appointee to the boards of the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corp. (EDC) and the League of California Cities, and is an alternate representative to the San Diego Association of Government’s Committee on Transportation.

Outside of his role as councilman, Mark is active in a number of community organizations, including the Rancho Bernardo Rotary Club and the Rancho Bernardo Business Association. He served five years as the Advisory Board Chairman to First Book San Diego, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving childhood literacy. And he’s a longtime supporter of the Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation. In 2014 Mark was honored as one of San Diego Metro Magazine’s “40 under 40.”

An alumnus of Northwestern University and the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management, Mark enjoys coaching Little League and taking his son Tyler to Padres and Chargers games.
