Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters of California Education Fund and California Counts, a public media collaboration (4)

Do you have specific plans to address the homelessness issue in Sacramento? Are you in support of any form of tent city in Sacramento as a solution to the issue? Please explain in detail.
Answer from Ronald E. Bell:

I AM SUPPORTIVE OF A "TEMPORARY" TENT CITY. THE HOMELESS ARE CITIZENS OF SACRAMENTO AND ARE DESERVING OF HELP FROM ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS. I WILL SUPPORT ANY AND ALL MEASURES TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH RIDDING OUR CITY OF THIS BURDEN. THE HOMELESS POPULATION ARE OUR RESPONSIBILITY AS PUBLIC OFFICIALS AND WE MUST NOT SHY AWAY FROM PROVIDING ALL FORMS OF ASSISTANCE WE ARE ABLE TO GIVE.

Concerns have been raised that the current mayor blurs lines between public and private endeavors. How would you provide the public with transparency about the operation of local government?
Answer from Ronald E. Bell:

I WILL PUSH FOR A SITTING INDEPENDENT ETHICS COMMITTEE TO OVERSEE ALL PUBLIC OFFICIALS BEHAVIOR WHILE IN OFFICE. THE ETHICS COMMITTEE WOULD HAVE UNLIMITED POWER TO PLACE SANCTIONS ON ANY PUBLIC OFFICIAL WHO DISCREDITS THEIR OFFICE AND BRINGS SHAME TO THE CITY OF SACRAMENTO.

What measures would you support to address the safety, cleanliness and availability of public transportation in Sacramento?
Answer from Ronald E. Bell:

I SUPPORT MEAUSRES A, U, AND Y. THEY ALL WORKS TOWARDS MAKING THE CITY OF SACRAMENTO A MORE FORWARD MOVING STATE CAPITOL. THE HIGH SPEED RAIL WILL PUT US ON THE MAP AND INCREAS TOURISM.

Sacramento is undergoing new business and housing growth. What, if any, initiatives would you offer to balance the growth with affordable housing and community interests?
Answer from Ronald E. Bell:

CERTAIN PARTS OF SACRAMENTO HAS BEEN DESIGNATED A PROMISE ZONE BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.  WITH THAT DESIGNATION COMES FEDERAL ASSITANCE TO REVITALIZE SPECIFIC AREAS OF SACRAMENTO. NEW BUSINESS AND HOUSING ARE CURRENTLY UNDERWAY IN SOME PARTS OF THE CITY. DOWNTURN SACRAMENTO IS BENEFITTING FROM A BRAND NEW SPORTS ARENA AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS DEVELOPMENT IS MOVING VERY FAST. HOWEVER, I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN THE CURRENT ELECTED REPRESENTATIVE FOR NOT FIGHTING HARDER TO INCLUDE SOUTH SACRAMENTO'S 8TH DISTRICT. I AM RUNNING AGAINST THE INCUMBENT FOR JUST THIS REASON AND A FEW OTHERS. WITH THE PROMISE ZONE COMES FEDERAL ASSISTANCE TO BOOST ECEONOMIC OPPORTUNITIES IN THAT AREA. SOUTH SACRAMENTO WILL NOT BENEFIT FROM ANY OF THE FEDERAL HELP BECAUSE IT WAS NOT INCLUDED WHEN CITY OFFICALS DREW UP THE MAP. AS THE ELECTED COUNCILMAN I WILL MAKE SOUTH SACRAMENT A SELF-SUSTAINING COMMUNITY FOR WORKING FAMILIES BY ATTRACTING NEW BUSINESSES TO GIVE OUR COMMUNITY A CHANCE TO PROVE IT WILL AND CAN SUPPORT BUSINESSES THAT SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY WITH FAIR WAGE JOBS STARTING AT $15.00 AN HOUR.
