Biography

Robert Hickey is a veteran prosecutor for the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. As a Deputy District Attorney for nearly 19 years, he held leadership positions as the Assistant Chief of the Gang Prosecution and Major Narcotics Units. Hickey was named the Prosecutor of the Year for his successful prosecution of the notorious Dr. J’s murders in Southeast San Diego where two women were killed and a seven year old boy was severely wounded. While a DDA, he was also twice elected by his peers to be President of the San Diego County Deputy District Attorneys Association representing and leading more than 300 attorneys.

Hickey also has a strong background in civil litigation. He was the Senior Associate at the prestigious national law firm McKenna Cuneo, now Denton's. Most noteworthy was his role as SEC nominated and Federal Court appointed Receiver’s Counsel in the PinnFund case where he worked to recover assets stolen in the $330 million ponzi scheme for the victim investors. In private practice, he was also assigned to review every lawsuit brought against the 2000-2001 San Diego Convention Center Expansion, the 1997 Qualcomm Stadium Expansion, and the 2000-2002 Petco Park project.

Robert P. Hickey III is the son of Rear Admiral Robert Hickey II (Ret.) and Marilyn Hickey of Rancho Bernardo. As the son of a Navy Fighter Pilot he moved often but always returned to the San Diego, where he has lived for almost 40 years. Hickey graduated from Poway High School in 1986, the University of California, San Diego in 1990, and the University of San Diego, School of Law in 1994. Mr. Hickey has been married to his wife for 20 years and they live in Point Loma with their two children.
