Climate changes and the continuing drought worry many in California. What new strategies do you believe would ensure that California is able to both satisfy its water needs and protect the environment? Please be specific.

We should leave no options behind. Water Storage ,Surface and Underground. Water conservation and related inovation not only will help us manage our resources but will also create  opprotunities for employment.

What are your top three fiscal priorities, recognizing the need to balance the state’s income with its spending?
Answer from Edward Ritchie:

Infrastucture, Education, restoring social programs that have been cut.

There are a variety of proposals to raise California's minimum wage. Many of these proposals face opposition from business groups who are concerned that they would kill jobs. Do you support increasing the minimum wage in California?  In your answer please explain your position on the relationship between wages and jobs with specific reference to the situation in your district.
Answer from Edward Ritchie:

Yes . I do support the increase of minimum wage. I  believe that the impact on jobs if any at all are out wieged by the econimics of consumer spending and the ability of full time workers to not have to rely on public services.

Many Californians are concerned about the influence of money in politics. What can the state legislature do to ensure that decision-making by elected officials is not swayed by moneyed interests at the expense of constituents?
Answer from Edward Ritchie:

Our legislature should continue to push for full disclosure of funds spent by third party pacs not controlled by the candidate .We need to strengthen our laws on lobbying office holders and consider those meetings as public meetings.

Official Statement

Edward Ritchie
Member of the State Assembly, 3
rd District
Party Preference: Democratic
Occupation: Retired Business Representative Age: 55

Our region is vitally important to the state. We supply California with food, water, and lumber, and we’re a destination for every kind of recreation. Yet Sacramento legislators draft laws without understanding our rural issues, concerns, or how legislation will impact Northern California communities.

We need a fresh leadership, unafraid to advocate for regional resources to improve infrastructure, education, and quality of life for working families. We need a leader who’ll support women, workers, and our business communities, and who’s willing to address environmental concerns and climate change impacts. It’s our Assemblymember’s responsibility to advocate for the needs of rural Northern California’s working families, be a bold voice for our issues and needs, and effectively impact legislation on our region’s behalf. Looking at the results, there’s clearly work to do.

I’m not a career politician or afraid to get my hands dirty. I believe in action over words and solutions over rhetoric. In a career spent supporting small businesses, local communities, and working families, I’ve learned to effectively bridge divisions, find solutions that work, and get the job done. I’ll focus on regional advocacy, build partnerships, work with stakeholders, and persist until there’s genuine impact. I’d be honored to represent our district in the Assembly — and to bring home results.
