Questions from League of Women Voters of California Education Fund (1)

A recent law made major changes in the way that the state allocates funding to schools.  What will you do to ensure that the public understands your local control formula for school spending and your plan to measure outcomes?

Mark Walker
Governing Board Member, Thermalito Union School District
Occupation: Photographic Supervisor                             Age: 57

I am running for the Governing Board of the Thermalito Union School District because I want to help insure that the students have the best possible education available.

My son and grandchildren attended the District and I would like the opportunity to give back to the community. Being a rural District I feel Thermalito might not have a strong voice and gets lost among all of the larger Districts. Districts should have a level playing field and not have to compete for resources in education. We need to prepare the students of Thermalito for college and entry into the competitive workforce.

Being a supervisor at Lifetouch I have experience in the latest technology, budgeting and planning resources to get the job done. I also have experience as a Board Member for Thermalito from 1998 through 2010. While on the board the District was able to open Plumas Elementary School as well as build a gymnasium, a Technology Center, and a new Library at Nelson Avenue Middle School.

I would like to offer my experience to the Board and the newly hired District Superintendent representing the students, parents and community of Thermalito. Thank you for your vote.
