Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

The role of the Treasurer is to provide accurate, unbiased information to the citizens, City Staff, and other elected officials so we as a community can make the best-informed decisions possible. I don't get involved in the political side of issues for two reasons: first, it's important that people who are relying on accurate financial information know that what I present is not slanted toward a political agenda. And second, my position does not have voting power when it comes to City policy. The vast majority of the time I am not asked to present policy ideas, but rather to explain the financial ramifications of both sides of a proposed idea. When asked for policy ideas, as in the case of the Pension Task Force for example, I present not only what I think possible solutions might be but also what solutions other cities have chosen when faced with similar issues. I have no political aspirations, my goal is to provide the best information possible to enable the City to be successful in the long-run.
