My Top 3 Priorities

  • Public Safety - Always a top priority. San Ramon is the #1 Safest city in California over 50,000 population and #6 in entire US. We developed a new dispatch center with the Fire District to speed up response times to all San Ramon residents.
  • Fiscal Restraint and Budget Transparency - We maintain over 75% financial reserves and we have a AAA credit rating from Standard & Poors. Our budgets and audits are always available on line.
  • Reducing traffic congestion - I pledge to do all I can to reduce traffic congestion in San Ramon especially in the Crow Canyon and Bollinger corridors. We need to get the two pedestrian over crossings built to improve safety and improve traffic flow.

Candidate Statement - voter guide

Summary

This is my Candidate Statement from the voter guide.

Occupation:   Vice Mayor / Design Engineer

Education:  BS, Mechanical Engineering, US Naval Academy; MBA, University of San Diego.

Professional Qualifications:  Livermore Lab Financial Manager: managed budgets up to $130 million.   Commanded Naval Reserve Units. Recalled to active duty, served in Turkey and Iraq during Desert Storm. Served 34 years in the Navy, retired as Navy Captain.

Community Service: 12 Years on San Ramon City Council. Over 30 years as adult leader in Boy Scouts; Eagle Scout Advisor to 99 boys. Member: San Ramon Historic, Library and Arts Foundations. Member: Save Mt Diablo, Rotary, VFW, and American Legion. Eagle Scout.

My family and I are 36-year residents of San Ramon.  We love our parks, landscaped boulevards, and the secure feeling of living here.  Our four children have grown up in this family-friendly community, and all have graduated from San Ramon schools.

I have walked every neighborhood in San Ramon and knocked on over 15,000 doors to talk to the residents. I have learned what makes you proud and your concerns. I have listened carefully.

San Ramon provides services that result in an outstanding quality of life for its citizens; not an easy proposition in a growing city with financial constraints.  After public safety, quality of life is the most important service a city can provide. San Ramon’s safety and quality of life is unsurpassed in California.

In spite of the “Great Recession,” San Ramon has retained its “AAA/Stable” rating by Standard & Poors, an accomplishment matched by only 25 cities in California. We have also maintained a 50% reserve. My solid leadership experience and thorough understanding of municipal finances allowed me to contribute to this accomplishment.

I am committed to finding and implementing solutions to the traffic congestion in and around San Ramon. I will also maintain or improve our safe city and quality of life we all enjoy.

Please vote for me, Scott Perkins.
