Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters of California Education Fund (1)

A recent law made major changes in the way that the state allocates funding to schools. What will you do to ensure that the public understands your local control formula for school spending and your plan to measure outcomes?
Answer from Bessie Johnson Bronson:

Each district must submit a plan to the County of how they are going to use the LCFF. In order to write the plan, parents ,school staff and community must be involved in creating and making the decisions that ultimately become the plan. The plan must address 8 components or tell why they are focusing on 1 or two components for that particular year. Once that plan is completed , it must be made public. If this process is followed, the public will be well informed. The public can question if they do not see that all eight components have been addressed. The plan must be updated and submitted  each year.

What is the most significant challenge facing the Oceanside Unified School District, and if you are elected, what steps will you take to address it?
Answer from Bessie Johnson Bronson:

As I see it, Oceanside residents have passed two school bonds to upgrade our schools and they are now beauutiful but, Our students are not performing well academically. 38% of our students are reading and writing on grade level.32% are able to do grade level math. That is not okay, we must change that. Our Oceanside citizens have supported the district. Property Values go up if test scores go up! I think we can do it.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

I belive that Education is a Civil Right for all students. When we do not focus on student achivement for all students, itis our moral failure. The achievement gap must be closed. I belive we can do this!!
