Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters of California Education Fund (1)

A recent law made major changes in the way that the state allocates funding to schools. What will you do to ensure that the public understands your local control formula for school spending and your plan to measure outcomes?
Answer from Richard Alderson:

The Local Control Funding Formula requires school districts to conduct open forums with the public to ensure public input into the development of the school budget. Vista has developed this public inptut process and has become a model within the state. Our Blue Print for Educational Excellence and Innovation is available on the district's website and each expenditure within the district can be viewed by the public.

Questions from League of Women Voters of North County San Diego (1)

What is the most significant challenge facing the Vista Unified School District, and if you are elected, what steps will you take to address it?
Answer from Richard Alderson:

Vista Unified has just celebrated its 100th Birthday and with that acknowledgement comes the realization that many of our schools are aging and in need of major repairs. The decline of our facilities is the bigget challenge facing the district at this time. With 21st Century facility needs, our greatest challenge is the repair of our schools.
