Councilwoman Star Bales was appointed to the City Council on December 17, 2013, to fill a City Council vacancy.
Prior to joining the City Council, Councilwoman Bales served on the El Cajon Planning Commission from 2008 – 2013, she was also a Commissioner for the El Cajon Arts and Culture Commission from 2004 - 2006. In 2005, she received a Commendation for her contributions and dedication to the Arts Commission from the City Council.
Councilwoman Bales is a renowned artist and volunteers as an art docent for local schools and for the Boys and Girls Club. She has served as a Councilmember for the San Diego County board of education Child Care and Development Planning Council. Additionally, Councilwoman Bales was a Board Member for the San Diego Army Advisory Council and continues to be a member of the El Cajon Historical Society.
In 2007, she worked side by side with our brave men and women in uniform. her service as a civilian contractor in Iraq provided critical aide to our troops.
As an El Cajon City Council member, she worked together with city council member to bring great progress to the city. During her term the city council has;
• Implemented balanced budgets.
• Reduced crime by 25%.
• Enhanced the quality of life with fun public events, and improvements to city parks.
• Supported pro-business policies that help grow jobs and city local economy.
• Approved many new, high-quality residential homes to provide new options for city residents.
Star Bales have been a resident of El Cajon since 1983 with her husband Gerald and their two children.
Councilwoman Bales was born in Iraq and came to the United States in 1979. She eventually moved to El Cajon in 1983 and has lived in the City ever since.
