My Top 3 Priorities

  • Traffic enforcement as I represent the citizens of La Mesa for their safety, comfort and security is my top priority.
  • State-of-the-art tools and equipment for our police and fire departments.
  • Enhance older neighborhoods maximizing vibrancy. Trees, lighting and walkable neighborhoods are an asset for the homeowner as well as the city.

Experience

Biography

Councilmember Ruth Sterling was born and raised in San Diego and has lived in La Mesa since 1963. She is the 5th member of a family of ten. A graduate of Mesa College Nursing Program, see Union Tribune Article, Fall 1966 where she was named "Outstanding Student," with picture and all. Ruth retired her license in Vocational Nursing in the mid nineties as she continued raising four very young daughters single-handedly.   Ruth was blessed with a natural compassion for people and wanted to expand her nurturing gift through the medium of Public Service.    Ruth Sterling was elected to the La Mesa City Council in 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008  and again in 2012. In the category of City Council, Ruth is the longest serving City Council member in La Mesa history. She said, "It is a great honor to serve this community for so many years." Ruth's durability is a result of her devotion.                 In those 24  years she has been absent from only one regular Council meeting and always on time. She studies and does her homework, serving you, the people of La Mesa. She has been a key part of the process and it didn't happen over night. Investors are putting their money in La Mesa, a well run city, it's stable and a great place to live. Ruth is part of that stability. She will stay the course. So goes La Mesa, so goes East County.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

I am fiscally conservative. It is important to continue a conservative approach in addressing the General Fund and continue to implement the City Cost Recovery policies to maintain La Mesa City Reserves.
