My Top 3 Priorities

  • My job as a Bakersfield City Councilman is to represent and be accountable to the city taxpayers I was elected to serve.
  • Crime is rising, and the city needs the resources to keep our residents safe. I am committed to hiring 100 more Police Officers over the next five years.
  • I have and will continue to constantly demand accountability and transparency from the City Manager and his staff at all times.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

You elected me in 2012 on promises I made about how I would represent you. I have been involved in many difficult and controversial topics, never forgetting that I am here to represent and be accountable to my constituents. Remember, I was the first councilmember to stand against the unilateral decision to remove the memorial bricks from Rabobank Arena.

I have served as Chairman of the Council’s Legislative and Litigation Committee, where we developed the ban on dangerous chemicals being marketed as Bath Salts and Spice, banned aggressive panhandling, limited downtown window signage, advocated supporting our local oil and gas producers, and directed city staff to improve bus stops. All of these and many more achievements have helped improve and revitalize our downtown.

I have been instrumental in demanding accountability and transparency from the City Manager’s office. It is important that we prioritize public safety, finding ways to hire and retain more officers. We cannot continue to overwhelm the budget with transportation projects, because our existing city streets are in disrepair and the Bakersfield Police Department is too understaffed to fight the increase in crime. When elected, I pledge to continue to prioritize public safety and improve accountability to the taxpayers.
