As your appointed Director for Santa Clara Valley Water District-1, my experience and commitment are focused on protecting and continuing to provide a sustainable, safe, clean water supply. I have lived in District 1 for 40 years, volunteering for 30 years as a Morgan Hill Kiwanis member, and co-founding several 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations.  I also co-founded several start-up for-profit companies in the toy, bio-fuel and solar industries. As a small business owner, I understand how to balance a budget, plan for future expenses, hire the right people and sometimes terminate those who don’t meet acceptable standards, I bring those skills to this position. I have also served as a Morgan Hill City Council member and Mayor.  I currently serve on the Board of Directors of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce.

The drought is still a top priority and sound experience is needed to continue to employ smart conservation to protect our supply of safe, clean water. We must continue to protect water rates from rising by protecting the open space credit;  I commit to continuing to fight for low rates.

I have been a strong voice for stimulating the local economy by building environmentally responsible flood protection projects, like the Llagas Creek Flood Protection Project, which have created numerous jobs and employed many local residents. I am proud to have received endorsements from the South Bay Labor Council and Local 21 AFL-CIO.

My priorities are to provide safe, clean water, assist our local agricultural community with water delivery, keep water rates low by protecting “open space credit,” increase the delivery of advanced purified water, and protect our watersheds and environment from pollution, while providing flood protection.

I ask for your vote to continue as an experienced director who knows how to safeguard our water supply and environment and to continue serving as member of your Santa Clara Valley Water District, Board of Directors!

Vote John Varela for Water District Director, District-1

Thank You!
