My Top 3 Priorities

  • My top priority is to improve our schools. As a Certified Reading Specialist MUSD's 39% literacy proficiency is a failure. I will DRASTICALLY focus on improving reading levels.
  • Improving school academics: by emphasizing reading confidence and success. Math, science, and all subjects (including vocational) improve with proficient readers.
  • Behavior and student engagement is another area of top priority. Students need to feel confident and demonstrate growth. Vocational Education and ROTC also a top priority.

Profession:California Credentialed Teacher, Administrator, and Reading Specialist
Middle School Public School Teacher/ Reading Specialist, Tracy Unified School Teacher (2001–current)
President, (Both) Weston Ranch Community Association (WRCA), Weston Ranch Outreach Committee (WROC) — Elected position (2011–2013)

University CA San Diego, UC Santa Cruz, San Jose State, Ohlone College Masters School Administration & Leadership. School Administration & Multiple Subj Credential. Reading Specialist. BA. AA, Reading Improvement (Building a Culture of Literacy); School Admin; Social Science; English; CA Credentialed teacher (2010)

IMPROVING WR LITERACY: West Walker is the only credentialed school teacher running for School Board. He is also a credentialed school administrator, a Reading Specialist, and holds a Master’s Degree in School Administration and Leadership. He is RUNNING WITH A MANDATE to Improve our schools low 39% Literacy levels. Students who cannot read are at risk as drop outs and an increase in community crime. He is an independent outsider with a fresh look at solving our educational challenges. His son attended WRHS, and his wife also is a local public school teacher. As a previous president of WROC and founding president of Weston Ranch Community Association, Mr. Walker has a long list of community involvement, including his recognition as the San Joaquin A+ "Educator of the Year.”, and his students' annual recognition at making the national reading honor roll (only class in our county and region to do so). WR needs to focus on academics and excellence. Please vote for W. Walker for MUSD Trustee Area 1
