My Top 3 Priorities

  • Accountability: Public officials represent tax dollars at work so it is important for the public to know how their money is spent.
  • Transparency: The public should always be kept informed about the government’s decisions and actions so it is imperative that city officials make their decisions and actions more visible.
  • Community outreach: An informed populous is the bedrock of any democratic government. We need to employ more technology and social media to improve civic engagement.

Biography

My parents immigrated to United States when I was two years old. I grew up in South Los Angeles in relative poverty; nonetheless, my parents taught me to be humble, thankful, and proud of my heritage.

While having been successful working in the private sector for my entire career, I have felt like something was missing–the feeling that I serve something greater than myself. I believe that sense of purpose is in public service. I have lived in South Gate since 2013; it is my home, where I have planted my roots, and where I hope to make a difference.

The key issues I hope to tackle are accountability, transparency and community outreach. Aside from performing my prescribed duties as a Treasurer, I would expand the open government policy by disclosing more information proactively and/or making it more accessible. One of the key components of value in any democratic society is accountability. The public should always be kept informed about the government’s decisions and actions. One of the most important outcomes of accountability is transparency. Let’s face it, trust in government is extremely low and transparency can help build that trust. Transparency can also result in an open exchange of ideas and jointly formulated policies between city officials and the informed populace which they serve.

Like many across the country, I was shocked–speechless–when I witnessed the election results last November. That disbelief quickly turned into fear. Fear for the future of my children, my family, and America in general. But I realized that being afraid wasn’t going to change anything–so I got angry. I was a Bernie supporter so my anger was first turned against the DNC. That felt good...for about second, and it was not productive. So I asked myself, if I continue to see decisions being made that are contrary to my values or best interests and don’t do anything about it, then what right is there to complain? I could not sit back and watch the current administration's lies, hate and divisiveness be normalized. I am better than that: we are better than that. Thus, I am here today in hopes that I am elected to do my part to resist and in the process make the city of South Gate more accountable, transparent, and engaging.

I humbly request your vote.
