Experience

Biography

Adriana Cabrera is 24 years old running to break barriers that prevent young working class women from positions of leadership. She is running to transform our community. Adriana was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. Daughter of two immigrants, she is the first out of her family of seven to graduate from high school and college.

For many years Adriana has had the opportunity to work with South Central community members, local government agencies, and community-based organizations to raise awareness and find solutions to the problems our communities face. At the age of 20, she was appointed to serve as the Education Representative for the Central Alameda Neighborhood Council. In this capacity, she collaborated with local organizations to plan and organize workshops such as; CSU and UC College Application, Cash for College, Undocumented Driver’s License AB 60 and Emergency Preparedness

Adriana also joined the grassroots people-powered organization Union Del Barrio. There, she organized for the legalization of street vending, minimum wage, ethnic studies at LAUSD, the exploitation of workers, to stop police brutality and other forms of violence our communities face. She founded Empowering Youth in South Central, a grassroots organization that has helped more than 900 students from CD 9 with their college, financial aid, and scholarship applications.
