              Denise M. Robles is a former City of Commerce Council member who served from March 2011 to March 2015.  Raised in Commerce from infancy, Denise is the daughter of a blue


collar family and knows first-hand the challenges facing the residents in her community. Her father, a Teamster truck driver and her mother a factory worker raised Denise and her three brothers with a strong work ethic. Denise was a gifted student but still not immune to life’s challenges.  As a teen mother, she put her higher education on hold.  She focused on her family and working to support them.  As her children got older, Denise remained connected to her community and began serving as a Neighborhood Watch Block Captain and as a commissioner on the City’s Library Commission and Community Services Commission.




Denise was also determined to continue her education and in 2009 earned her Associate of Arts Degree. She later graduated Cum Laude (with honors) in June 2013 from California State


University, Los Angeles with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science with an emphasis on Public Administration.  She continued with her higher education and was accepted to the Political Science Master’s Program where she earned her Masters Degree in Political Science with an concentration on American Government.. Denise is a firm believer in continuing higher education at any age and encourages those to consider college re-entry. 


Denise’s priorities are ensuring the city is safe,  bringing new businesses to Commerce, improving the City's appearance and protecting residential programs and services. She is an adjunct Professor at East Los Angeles College and also is self-employed as a mobile notary which allows her to maintain a flexible schedule for family and the community.  With a passion to serve, Denise is committed to investing in those who are struggling the most.  She serves on the Advisory Board of a local non-profit organizations and volunteers with other non-profits sharing her story of perseverance and overcoming challenges. She hopes to inspire people of all ages to continue to achieve regardless of their circumstance. She is regulary attends church in Downey. 




Denise lives in the Veterans neighborhood of Commerce with her husband Richard; has six children and two grandchildren who all live in Commerce, and one son who proudly serves in the U.S. army.
