My Top 3 Priorities

  • Teacher Retention & Support: Working with teachers, Board members, and other community leaders I will look into housing options and make budgetary decisions that support our teachers.
  • Funding: Our district faces a $7 million deficit. As we look at our costs and ways to balance our budget we also have to look creatively at increasing funding - corporate donors, local & social media fundraising, grants, and appeal Sacramento.
  • Equity in Education plus Music and Art: As we have a diverse student body, ensuring that we have the right programs to address the needs of EVERY child in our district. Collaborate with non-profits and corporations to add state-of-the art programs.

Community Activities

Board Member, Friends of Library, Foster City (2016–current)
President, Light of Life Trust, a non-profit organization (2009–current)
Committee Co-chair, Foster City Rotary Club (2013–current)

I believe that there is no greater joy in life than that spent in the service of others.

As an active parent in our school district for several years, I have volunteered in our schools from Classroom Mom, PTA Board to President of the Site Council. My three sons studied in our public schools (Brewer Island, Bowditch Middle, Hillsdale High School, and Design Tech).  The two older boys are Eagle Scouts and the youngest one is working towards it.

I started volunteering and helping children while I was in college in India. I volunteered in Mother Teresa's orphanage and at a School for the Blind. After graduating with a degree in Bio-Chemistry and Zoology from St. Xavier's  College in Bombay, I went back to the village I came from to help setup science tutoring classes for 11th and 12th graders in those under-served areas.

I spent a lot of my early years in India working in our family businesses, mainly managing our three farms, and our transportation business.  My family and I have lived in Foster City for 24 years and I am fortunate to live in such a wonderful community.

Currently, I serve as President of the Board of the Light of Life Trust, a non-profit organization. We educate orphans and single parent children in over 400 villages of India.

As a member of the Rotary Club of Foster City, I believe in its motto  of  "Service Above Self”.  We do projects and fundraisers that,  among other things, support our local schools.  I also serve on the Board of Friends of Foster City Library, where we are currently working to add a modern "Maker Space”.

Professionally, in the Bay Area I have had the honor to work with families in helping them buy their first home or sell their home and retire.

Along with passion and altruism, a community leader or school board trustee also needs to be pragmatic in looking for solutions.  With my business, volunteering and non-profit experience, I will collaborate with our community, teachers, administrators, Education Foundation, local and state leaders, and businesses to help ALL children in our school district succeed.
