As a lifelong San Mateo resident I grew up in Fiesta Gardens, a tight-knit neighborhood with an active community organization and pool like the Highlands. I came to the Highlands often as a child to compete in swim meets. A major reason my wife and I chose to buy our house and raise our children here is the close knit community that reminds me of my youth. Sadly, communities such as the Highlands and Fiesta Gardens seem to be more the exception than the rule these days. The Highlands Recreation District is one reason this is such a special place. It’s also a big part of our family from the After School Program and swim team to community events, classes and birthday parties. The HRD is so important to myself and our community that I want to give back by serving on the Board of Directors.

I have professional qualifications and dedication to help the HRD board succeed. For twenty plus years I have worked in financial services assisting businesses large and small and non-profits in meeting their financial needs including budgeting, cost analysis and forecasting. There is a definite need for financial experience on the board since one of our retiring members is a CPA and lent his expertise to the HRD.  Specific areas where this would be beneficial are major long term actions that need to be addressed such as the refinancing of the bond that was taken out by the Highlands community to build the Early Education Center and ADA and seismic upgrades to the gymnasium building.

On a personal note, I am a dedicated father, husband, son, neighbor and community member. Some areas where I actively volunteer are AYSO, Girl Scouts, swim team, Highlands Elementary, PTA, HRC events, the Fourth of July and neighborhood clean-up.  I would apply the same work ethics and dedication as a Board Member to the HRD.

If elected, I would utilize my experience and skillset to serve the HRD by providing support, guidance and oversite so the HRD can offer Highland’s residents great service and amenities.
