Biography

College Trustee Miguel Arias spent his youth as a farmworker in West Fresno County, working to pay his college tuition and learning first-hand the value of hard work.

Miguel’s determination and hard work guided him from the harvest fields to the halls of the United State Congress, where he served Central Valley families as a legislative aide for Congressmen Cal Dooley.

Due to the devastating drought Miguel returned to Fresno to lead emergency food relief efforts and to advocate for more water storage. For the last decade, he has served as an education executive, improving to record levels high school and colleges graduation rates and creating a pathway for a new generation of leaders.

Miguel’s hard work and leadership in our community earned him recognition as ‘Educator of the Year’ from the Association of California School Administrators. He also received the Golden Bell Award from the California School Board Association, the Community Leadership Award from Centro La Familia, and the Community Leadership Award from the Fresno Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Committee.

Miguel currently serves as the Chief Information Officer for the Fresno Unified School District and is a State Center Community College District Trustee. Miguel lives in downtown Fresno with his family.
