My Top 3 Priorities

  • Bring back meaningful settlement conferences where the judge actually gets his "hands dirty". We have too many cases go to trial, waste taxpayers' money, waste jurors' time , and waste valuable court time. that could be more efficiently used .
  • Insure that court orders are actually carried out. All too often, court orders are disregarded in the name of administrative expediency. Justice should trump bureaucracy.
  • Initiate greater transparency between the people and the courts.

Biography

I was born in Israel and became a naturalized American citizen when I was 15 years old. After receiving my J.D. from Western State University, I started my private practice in San Luis Obispo in 1979. I have been honored by being named the Central Coast Trial Lawyer of the Year 3 times most recently being this past year in 2017. This recognition is bestowed by the the preeminent civil trial lawyers' association in San Luis Obispo. This is unprecedented because I have been Certified by the California State Bar as a Criminal Law Specialist since 1990. I have achieved the highest jury verdict in San Luis Obispo history against Unocal ($10,000,000.76). I have handled some of the most high profiled criminal cases over the last 40 years. I have argued before the California Supreme Court, the federal Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal, and every district appellate court in California except the 3rd. I have been published in nine cases. In addition, I have served two terms as a Director of the Cambria Community Services District. One gleans fairly quickly that my experience, both length and breadth, is unique in our County. I can bring a balance that will enhance our Superior Court. This backround will allow me to start my service on the bench immediately. I can assure you that the taxpayer will get his or her money's worth because, for starters, I will not need any training. Thank you.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

I am a constitutionalist. I believe in the plain meaning of the text of laws. I have been a registered Independent my entire life. Politics should never be a consideration when applying the rule of law. The legal chips fall where they fall. I believe all judges should subscribe to this same allegiance and independence. A judge is here to judge, not politicize.
