My Top 3 Priorities

  • Reform culture of indifference, increase public accountability, end the million dollar payouts & lawsuits, end the lies and cover ups.

  • The people of San Luis Obispo County deserve a Sheriff who will lead the department with honesty and integrity. Once elected, I will improve the safety and well-being of all citizens by addressing these key issues.

Experience

Biography

I have resided in San Luis Obispo County for 43 years. My wife and I have three adult children

and four grandchildren. I have served my community as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff, Police Officer, and

Detective. I served in the United States Navy Reserve with RNMCB-17 Pt. Hueneme, CA 1986-1994. I

was a trained heavy equipment operator in the Seabees. I received an Honorable Discharge in 1994.

 

I have coached youth baseball at all levels. My wife and I are avid baseball fans. In my spare

time I work in my wood shop building rustic tables, themed patio coolers, and other small projects.

 

Qualifications:

BA Degree CAL POLY- SLO in Political Science with a minor in Public Administration. I hold a

California Peace Officers Advance POST certificate. I have worked as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff at the

San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Department, as a Police Officer / SWAT / Field Training Officer / Detective at

the San Luis Obispo Police Department, and as a licensed Private Investigator.

 

I have worked the past 25 years as a private investigator for the County of San Luis Obispo,

government agencies throughout the Central Coast, insurance companies and attorneys. I have

investigated complex civil and criminal matters.

 

My strengths are interpersonal skills, negotiations, information technology, all aspects of civil

and criminal investigations. I have a strong work ethic based on a blue-collar upbringing. I am a person

of faith. I approach challenges as opportunities to bring people together to succeed.

 

My Goals if elected:

  • Put an end to the death rate within our County Jail.
  • Increase Correctional Deputy staffing in County Jail.
  • Implement advanced psychiatric training for Correctional Deputies.
  • Construct and staff a dedicated psychiatric care facility within the County Jail.
  • Hire a professionally trained “Warden” to oversee and manage the County Jail.
  • Implement a Citizen’s Oversight Committee for the County Jail.
  • Build a Sheriff’s Substation in Nipomo area.
  • Develop plans to separate the Coroner’s Office from the Sheriff’s Department to
  • establish an Independent Medical Examiner’s Office.
  • Maintain and expand non-profit inmate therapy and rehabilitation programs in
  • County Jail.
  • Increase Community Policing.
  • Work with our at-risk youth in gang and drug resistance.
  • Promote diversity in the workplace.
  • Work to recruit and retain quality employees at the Sheriff’s Department.
