Experience and Leadership…from the Classroom to the Board Room

Education is my commitment and my career.  I am, passionately, a student and teacher for life. My life-long dedication to and service in public education has taken me from the classroom to the Board Room.

My service as a two-term Mt. Diablo School Board Trustee, Contra Costa County Office of Education Administrator, Principal, Assistant Principal, Vice Principal, and teacher in three school districts gives me the experience, knowledge, credibility, and leadership to bring vitality and positive direction to our County Office of Education.

Goals

Partnerships are essential to success in any organization. As your County Superintendent, I will accomplish my goals in collaboration with teachers, administrators, parents, and the community:

Be a True Service Provider and Educational Partner.

·      I will ensure the County Office of Education is both proactive and responsive in providing relevant services to our school districts.

·      We will be a County Office of Education that partners effectively with our educational and business communities.

Ensure Fiscal Accountability.

·      I will seek out and use fiscal resources intelligently to achieve balanced, well-targeted budgets.

·      We will ensure that the County Office of Education provides fiscal monitoring and support to districts and charter schools.

Provide Quality Programs in Safe, Supportive Schools.

·      I will provide quality educational programs and support services to prepare allstudents for college and career success in safe, secure environments that meet their learning needs.

·     We will partner to provide all students, early childhood to adult, with an equitable, competitive education.

Be a Proactive, Trusted Advocate.

·      I will be a strong voice for public education at the local, state, and federal levels.

·     Funding for California schools is still 45th in the nation.  I will advocate for adequate funding so that our schools, students, and staff have the support needed to provide excellent educational programs.

Experience and Accomplishment Matters

Experienced leadership and a proven record of accomplishment are essential to success in any organization and those are strengths that I bring.

The County Superintendent needs to serve as both a leader and a manager.  My vision is to lead the County Office of Education beyond the management of minimal state-mandated requirements and provide educational leadership that reaches outside the County Office and partners with and supports our 18 school districts and local business community.  That takes a leader who has a breadth of experience, actual accomplishment, and trust and confidence of others.

My broad educational experience uniquely qualifies me to lead the County Office of Education:

Teacher – Mt. Diablo USD

·     Middle and high school teacher:  Oak Grove Middle, Northgate High, Ygnacio Valley High

Trust and Confidence in a Leader

To be a successful leader, a County Superintendent has to look around and see people following herand that takes trust and confidence in her leadership.

I have earned credibility with our 18 school districts’ educators who know that I understand the needs of our districts, how both the County Office and school districts function, and the value of a partnership and ongoing communication between the County Office and districts.

I’m proud to have been endorsed by those who work daily in our school districts and the County Office of Education to educate and support our students and schools.  My supporters are the heart of public education and important educational partners:
