I am a native San Diegan. My family has been in National City for over 90 years. I am a graduate of Sweetwater High, Southwestern College, and the University of San Diego where I studied History with Honors. My legal training is from the USD School of Law. I served my country as an Airman in the United States Air Force for 4 years.

I began my career as a federal public defender for 2 years. Since 1991 I have been in private practice handling mainly federal criminal matters, incuding complex drug, fraud and internet crimes. I have represented people in a wide range of criminal & civil cases. I have tried approximately 50 jury trials to verdict.

I have volunteered as a Temorary Judge in the Superior Court for the past 10 years, hearing Small Claims matters. My community service includes work with California Rural Legal Assistance, Border Angels, La Raza Lawyers, including chair of the Endorsements Committee. I am a charter member of the Route 78 Rotary Club. I was elected to the Board of Directors of the SD County Bar Association and have served on the Court Funding Committee and the Judicial Election Evaluations Committee. I am a sustaining member of Lawyers Club. I serve on the Board of the USD Law Alumni Board and the TransBorder Institute. My favorite volunteer service has been as an Attorney Coach for 3 different high schools in the County Mock Trial Competition.

The San Diego County Bar Association has rated me "Exceptionally Qualified," its highest rating.
