My Top 3 Priorities

  • The City needs to find ways to increase its supply of housing for affordable to moderate and middle income earners. We also need to fix the AUD Incentive Program Ordinance, which meant well but is being manipulated.
  • Through a creative combination of angled parking and one-way streets, our parking crisis can be solved. We will put forth a plan immediately to reduce some of the parking pressures in the Third District.
  • Livability would include neighborhood cleanliness and noise. We need to restructure our agreement with MarBorg to optimize their workflow and to keep our streets and sidewalks clean. We also need to give the SNAP program the attention it deserves.

Biography

A NOTE FROM MICHAEL:

I have spent my life driving progress and success through gritty determination. This all started from the beginning.

My father was born in Spain and came to the United States when he was in his 20s in search of better economic life. My mother is Mexican-American and she was from a single mother household. My older brother and I learned English as a second language and learned at a very young age to embrace our culture.

My parents built a janitorial business from the ground up. Even at a very young age -- in elementary school -- we would all clean offices with my parents. When I was fifteen years old, my brother and I would start to clean carpets with the carpet cleaning crew on the weekends.

My parents would hold me accountable to getting straight A’s in school, doing sports, and working in the family business. This work ethic has transferred to my professional life. When I was going to UCSB, I was still helping with my family business, but I was helping find new accounts instead of cleaning.

I graduated from UCSB in 2003 with a double major in Business Economics and Sociology. While I was going to UCSB I was a coach for different leagues at the Page Youth Center. Coaches are teachers on the field or court and they are essential with the development of our youth. I took the coaching job very serious because without a coach those kids cannot have that sport experience.

After graduating from UCSB, I immediately started working at Wells Fargo and continued my public service by volunteering with social civic groups like the Lions Club and Chamber. I moved on to be the District Manager of Santa Barbara Community Bank, and am currently a small business owner.

I wanted to share a little bit about myself since I am a relatively private person with no online presence.

I am an open book though. I can be found working in the trenches in business, as a volunteer, and as a friend. Please reach out to me with any questions, comments, or concerns. My email is michael@michaelvidal.org and my telephone number is 805-669-6737.

Sincerely,

MICHAEL
