My Top 3 Priorities

  • Reducing crime and combatting gang violence
  • Modernizing the Sheriff's Department with the integration of high-technology tools
  • Increasing proactive community policing

Sheriff Sniff has over four decades of law enforcement experience and is the eldest grandson of one of the pioneering date and citrus families of the Coachella Valley. He grew up in the Indio area.

A retired colonel in the Army Reserve, Stanley Sniff was commissioned as an Armor officer out of the OCS program in 1973 at the U.S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, GA.

Sniff received his undergraduate education at the University of California’s San Diego and Riverside campuses, graduating from the latter in 1980.  At UCSD he lettered in Karate, served as team captain and was part of the team that captured the U.S. Intercollegiate Championships in 1971.  In 2005, he was the recipient of the UCR Alumni Association’s Distinguished Public Service Award, and in 2007 he was inducted into the California Martial Arts Instructors Hall of Fame for service as a role model in his public service career. He has served as an adjunct instructor for Riverside Community College in the Basic Law Enforcement Academy and taught Leadership, Ethics and Management for newly promoted first-line supervisors.  He is also a graduate of the FBI National Executive Institute.

Sheriff Sniff joined the Coachella Police Department in 1975 after graduation from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Academy and then transferred to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in 1979, initially assigned to the Indio Station, serving across the Coachella Valley.

He has served as Sheriff since 2007, was elected in 2010 and then again in 2014 to a second full 4-year term.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

Riverside County residents deserve an experienced leader heading the Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff Stan Sniff has held office since 2007, and previously rose through the ranks including experience in several station and facility command positions, followed by lengthy experience as a senior executive under previous sheriffs.  He manages an annual $700 million budget entrusted to him by the County Supervisors and oversees countywide operations for nearly 4,000 fulltime employees in one of California’s most complex and largest law enforcement agencies, serving 2.4 million Riverside County residents.  He has modernized the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department with the integration of high-technology tools to help successfully fight crime during an austere fiscal period for the County.
