My Top 3 Priorities

  • Improve recruitment and retention of police officers so that we can have more police patrolling our streets.
  • Create jobs and grow our economy by bringing major employers and high quality jobs to Otay Mesa and by reinvesting in our older commercial corridors.
  • Fix our streets and sidewalks and build more parks and playgrounds for our kids.

Biography

As a lifelong resident of South San Diego, Vivian Moreno has dedicated her career to improving the region’s most underserved communities through experience, volunteer work and public service.

For the past eight years, she has worked as a City Council policy advisor on issues that affect the quality of life for District 8 neighborhoods including the building of more affordable housing for our working families, ensuring safe routes to school, advocating for more parks and libraries for our youth and promoting initiatives that bring jobs to our communities.

Prior to working in the public sector, Vivian worked on procurement for a metal distribution company giving her an intuitive understanding of what it takes to operate a business.  In her work on behalf of the 8th Council District, she has assisted local entrepreneurs by organizing events to connect them with the resources needed to help them grow their businesses.

With a strong passion towards the advancement of youth and women in San Diego, Vivian proudly serves on the boards of community-focused organizations such as the Borderview YMCA and MANA de San Diego.  She has dedicated over seven years of one-on-one mentorship for MANA’s Hermanitas program which provides leadership development and peer support for Latinas ages 12 – 18, with a focused goal of mentees attaining higher education and career achievement.  Vivian has also been active in engaging and encouraging young adults to participate in civic life by registering more than 3,500 new voters at her alma mater UC San Diego.

Vivian’s leadership and dedication to her community has been continuously recognized. She was named one of San Diego’s “40 under 40” in 2015 by San Diego Metro Magazine and has been included in the “Who’s Next: 21 Future Leaders” of San Diego by Our City San Diego. She was also nominated for the prestigious San Diego IMPACT 2016 Herb G. Klein Memorial Leadership Award.  Beyond these accolades, Vivian is first and foremost driven by her strong desire to work tirelessly on behalf of her fellow San Diegans in the 8th District and to ensure they receive the equitable services and resources they need for better quality of life.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

I believe that real change can only be made when more people step up, work together, and engage in our democracy. When we work together and get involved in government, great things happen.
