My Top 3 Priorities

  • 911 Fire, Police and Emergency Medical Services. Seconds count in an emergency! I’ll continue to maintain our quick 911 response times so any resident or family who needs help, gets it fast. Continuing to keep Alameda Hospital open and maintaining

  • Housing and Homelessness. The skyrocketing cost of housing means that future generations of Alamedans won’t be able to afford a home on the Island—let alone our teachers, police officers and firefighters. We must expand housing options working fami

Councilmember, City of Alameda — Elected position (2014–current)

Biography

Alameda City Council Member Jim Oddie is proud to work day and night on behalf of the people of Alameda.  He advocates for our Island’s unique neighborhoods and our quality of life -- and brings years of experience as a civic leader, legislative aide and regional champion for our City, while working to maintain quality of life services for residents of all ages.

As City Council Member, Jim led efforts to establish the new Emergency Operations Center in Central Alameda, and maintained rapid 911 response times citywide.  He is an advocate of the City’s pilot Community Paramedic Program, one of just a handful of innovative models in the state where paramedics provide focused care for at-risk populations and those recently discharged from the hospital.

Jim has also worked to install crossing lights for pedestrian safety, underground utilities in our neighborhoods and properly maintain the estimated 260 miles of sidewalks in Alameda.  As the District Director for Assemblymember Rob Bonta, he works daily to serve East Bay and Alameda constituents—most importantly, by fighting for Alameda’s fair share of state money and grants, particularly to fix our potholes and streets.

A leader on issues of pension reform, fiscal accountability and transparency, Jim previously served as the first Chair of the City’s Open Government Commission and worked to keep Alameda Hospital open and financially sustainable.

Jim is proudest of raising his daughters-- two dynamic and accomplished young women who attended Alameda public schools and embody the values of service.  Sarah Oddie, a graduate of Wellesley College, is an aide to County Supervisor Wilma Chan and Linnea Oddie, a graduate of Willamette University, is an artist. Jim and his family—Ichi, Sarah, and Linnea — strongly support our Island values of inclusiveness, diversity and fair treatment for all. If re-elected, Jim will continue his tradition of supporting the next generation of Alamedans and expanding the City-School partnerships that support quality education.
