Biography

I am the oldest son of immigrants from China. My parents came to this country seeking a better life. My father was a waiter most of his life, and, my mother was a seamstress. I learned from them that hard work will be rewarded. They worked all the time, earning barely just enough money to take care of us 8 kids. Yes, I grew up with 7 siblings, 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Although, my 2 brothers were the last two in the family, so, I mostly grew up with my 5 sisters. From them, I learned to share and work together. We did not have a lot of material possessions, so, we learned to share whatever we had. I do recall on most Wednesdays, my father had the day off from work, we’d mow the lawn all day. Our reward was to go to the Foster Freeze and get 1 ice cream cone. We all shared that one cone. We were happy kids sharing.

I was the first child in my family to go to a 4 year college and graduate. I went to Cal. Wanted to be an engineer, ended up getting a degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Accounting. Coming out of Cal, I worked as an auditor for the State of California, auditing County governments. When I got my CPA certification, I worked for a small CPA firm in San Francisco, learning the skills I’d need to one day open my own practice, which I did, in Downtown San Leandro, 31 years ago. It was the best career move I ever made. Work in the town where I live and play, no commute!

Living, working, and playing in San Leandro allowed me to get to know the people here really good. I was active with everything. I joined and served in leadership roles in the Dads Club (President), PTA (Vice President), United Parents (Director), T‐Ball (Team Manager) and Soccer Little Leagues (Treasurer), Chamber of Commerce (Director and Treasurer), my homeowners association (President and Treasurer), the Downtown Association (President and Treasurer), the Asian Community Cultural Association (Director), the San Leandro Breakfast Club (President), the Wa Sung Community Service Club (Treasurer), the local Rotary Club (President and Treasurer), the Asian Pacific Caucus (President and Treasurer), the San Leandro Democratic Club (Vice President), I worked on the City’s General Plan, and, I’m currently serving my second year as Chair of the Planning Commission. I even served as a Trustee and President on the San Leandro Unified School District Board of Trustees. I am still active on many of these organizations. As you can see, Community Service is a priority in my life here in San Leandro.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

I am a life long Democrat, believing that, as individuals, we should help those less fortunate than us; and, our public policies and resources should be focused on providing the basic public safety services and necessities of life, and lifting our underserved residents to equal equitable levels in the community.
