My name is Ken Rawdon.   I have served the educational needs of our community’s children for 28 years as a teacher in the Hayward Unified School District.  I retired from teaching in June of 2017.  During my career as a teacher I taught at the elementary level as well as the middle school and high school levels, with the bulk of that time teaching high school.   I have been a resident of Hayward since 1996 and a property owner since 2000.  My passion has always been education:  I believe in the students of Hayward and the benefits of an excellent education.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

For twenty-eight years I dedicated my life to the students of Hayward as a classroom teacher.  Within me beats the heart of a teacher which will bring a unique perspective to the board of education.   It’s Hayward’s smart, intelligent, and creative students who drive my desire to be on the board.  Given the chance, they are capable of doing anything expected of them.   I will be their strongest advocate!  Working together with students, community and parents, who are my biggest supporters, I created a nationally recognized music program with very few resources.  I will  demand fiscal responsibility and accountability from the district.  Over time I’ve seen boards make good and bad decisions.  I have seen what works and what doesn’t.   As we work to improve test scores and graduation rates, I won’t allow enrichment courses to fall by the wayside.  I’ll work to foster an educational environment where students thrive, not merely produce adequate test scores.  I’ll work to implement the district’s newly adapted Visual and Performing Arts Plan.  I will listen to the voices of students, teachers and parents.    I humbly ask for your vote.
