I grew up in the industrial Calumet Regon of northern Indiana - home of US Steel Gary works, graduating from Hammond High School in a class of 500.  Wanting something different, I left my native Indiana to earn an A.B. degree in Biology from Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island.  Returnng to my roots, I became a Purdue Biolermaker as I taught lab courses and did research, leaving with a Masters degree in Developmental Biology.  With my new credentails, I came to San Francisco and found employment at UCSF in the Anesthesia Department.   The team used mice, rats, guinea pigs, dogs, healthy volunteers and surgery patients to investigate a new inhaled anesthetic which came to be called Forane. I led parts of the research and co-authored journal articles and presented papers at national conferences.

I retired when my first son was born.  We moved to Livermore in 1982.  I was an active parent at Jackson and East Avenue and was a successful candidate in School Board election of 1990.  I advocated for the original Granada Block Plan at the State Board and support innovation and creativity in Livermore classrooms - for teachers as well as students.

I have been and active member of the California School Boards Association.  As a director, I was a member of its Adequacy Committee, the Charter School Task Force as well as Bylaws, Nominating, Audit and Legislation committees.  I have made presentations hightlighting Livermore and Tri-Valley topics at six statewide conferences.   I have been a member of the CSBA Delegate Assembly since 2000.

My two sons are graduates of Ganada High School.  My husband is a physicist, retired from LLNL.
