Biography

I was born and raised in Stockton, California.  Living on the south side of town, I attended Jackson Elementary, Hamilton Middle School and Edison High School.  I attend San Joaquin Delta College exploring various subjects such as art, photography and biologic sciences.  From SJDC, I earned an Associate of Arts Degree with honors in Psychology.  I continued my education at the University of California at Berkeley and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.

Upon completion of my BA at UC Berkeley, I obtained my first professional job as a counselor working with severely emotionally disturbed children in a residential and day treatment program.  After six years working in the social work field, I decided to change directions and I worked for a software company for two years.  I then had an opportunity to move to Seattle, Washington.  I worked as a project manager for a medical ethics review board that reviewed and approved trials for investigative pharmaceuticals. I was always interested in the medical field and this nudged me to go back to school to work towards medical school. I moved back to Stockton and attended California State University at Hayward as a post-baccalaureate pre-med student. I completed my pre-med coursework with a near 4.0 GPA. However, I did not achieve acceptance into medical school. So, instead, I earned my Associate degree in Nursing and became a licensed registered nurse (RN).

During the time I attended Cal State Hayward, I began working as a reference librarian for the Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library system and was a tutor and supplemental instructor at Delta College for the Science and Math Learning Center and Nursing department, specializing in review classes for pharmacology.  At the same time, I started a family and now have a daughter who just started her freshman year at Lincoln High School. Currently, I continue to work at the public library, mainly in the city of Tracy.

Outside of work and home, I stay involved in the community. For six years, I have been the Lincoln Unified School District Chairperson for the Reflections Arts Program (a National competition sponsored by the National PTA). In addition, this is my eighth year as an art instructor for the Art Docent program for elementary school students at Mable Barron School. Currently, I teach art for five classes (for 2nd, 3rd and 6th grades on a monthly basis) and have taught a maximum of eight classes in one year. I am a volunteer nurse instructor for the annual 5th grade Heart Lab event at Mable Barron School. I have also been a co-chairperson and coach for the Science Olympiad program at Mable Barron elementary school. I served for two terms on the Mable Barron School Site Council. Finally, this will be my fourth year as a USA Swimming Sanctioned Stroke and Turn Judge for the Stockton Swim Club year round swim team.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

Education, fairness and inclusiveness are all of the utmost importance to me. I believe we, as parents and educators, have a responsibility and obligation to bring up the next generation to be independent thinkers, productive citizens and educated individuals. In order to achieve this, I want to help cultivate fairness, sensitivity, and the value of education. In addition, I want to be a voice for the under represented (the teachers, staff, students, parents and volunteers) when they cannot be present in a discussion. If I can help do this as a Board member, then I will do my best to fulfill these goals.
