Biography

 

Steve DeBrum was born in Hanford, California grew up there and graduated from Hanford High School in 1965.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic College, San Luis Obispo in 1970. Drawing on his strong passion for the growth and preservation of agriculture, Steve went to work for Foremost Foods Company in their laboratory and later in the Field Department. In 1979, Steve was hired as the Dairy Manager for Knudsen Agricultural Management Company.

In 1984, Steve began service from his home base in Manteca as the Area Field Representative for Petaluma Cooperative Creamery, an agricultural marketing cooperative which became Dairy Farmers of America. He recently retired as the DFA’s Northern California manager which covers the Northern California and Northern Nevada area.

Steve was initially elected to the Manteca City Council by special election in March of 2003 and was subsequently re-elected to the Council for 3 terms before being elected Mayor in 2014.  In that election, Steve defeated his closest opponent by nearly 25%.  He currently sits on the San Joaquin County Council of Governments, Manteca’s Criminal Justice Task Force, the Manteca Economic Development Committee, the Manteca Unified School District 2 x 2 Common Goals Committee, the Second Harvest Food Bank Board and the San Joaquin County Partnership Board, and the Manteca Land Use Sub-Committee.

Steve is active in a number of professional clubs and associations. He is past president of the California Creamery Operators and is a past member of the California Auctioneers Association. He is also past president of the Manteca Convention and Visitor's Bureau, the Manteca Chamber of Commerce and the Manteca Boys and Girls Club.

 

 

 

Steve is a member of the Manteca Sunrise Kiwanis, where he has served as Lt. Governor for the California, Nevada, and Hawaii region. He has served as a past state officer for the Future Farmers of America. As an active member of Manteca's St. Anthony's Parish, Steve has served in the role of Grand Knight with the St. Anthony's Knights of Columbus.

Steve and his wife Veronica recently celebrated their golden anniversary. They have two grown children and five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
