My Top 3 Priorities

  • I have taught in every grade level, K-8, and add an insider's perspective. I am a passionate advocate for children from a variety of backgrounds and am determined to bridge the academic, cultural, and economic gaps that exist in our district.
  • I have strong relationships with teachers, staff, and administration at all CUSD schools and will be a powerful voice and liaison when it comes to setting district policy and making decisions that affect all employees.
  • Through my volunteer experiences, I have proven to be a community leader and will continue to give back to the district. Creating vocational and mentoring opportunities for high school students, with community business partners, is a top priority.

I grew up in a very large, loving family with eight brothers and sisters. I am second to the youngest and have several nieces and nephews to whom I am extremely close. My grandfather was a CA State Senator and a superior court judge. He was instrumental in passing the legislation to build CSU, Sacramento. My dad was a pre-eminent condemnation attorney for fifty years, defending the rights of private property owners. My dad always fought for the little guy and was an advocate at heart. He was known for his integrity, honesty, and generosity. I attribute my innate drive to give back and make a difference in this world to both him and my Mom, a selfless, wonderful woman who saw the good in everyone with her pure and generous heart.

Growing up, we had relatives that lived both in Carmel and Carmel Valley. We vacationed in Carmel every summer, which is why I fell in love with the area. I graduated from CSU, Chico, with a degree in Journalism and Philosophy. During my tenure at Chico State, I was very involved in an organization called CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education). I led multiple groups of college students to the Napa Valley to assist with the elderly at the Yountville Veterans Hospital and the Napa Boy’s Home for troubled teens. During my college summers, I was a camp counselor at Camp Kennolyn, in Santa Cruz, and led three day backpacking trips for children of all ages. I was also a three sport athlete, throughout high school, and ran the camp’s tennis program.

Upon graduation, I moved to Pacific Grove, to live with my sister, and took a job with the Pebble Beach Company. It was there I met my future husband! We got married in 1994 and bought our first home in Las Palmas, Salinas. I worked for the Pebble Beach Company, Hunter Public Relations, then managed B&B’s for Four Sisters Inns for several years. After having children, I was able to be a stay at home mom and volunteer at many non-profits on the Peninsula, including Monterey County Special Olympics, Gathering for Women, St. Joseph’s Church, and Animal Friends Rescue Project. I also devoted much of my time in my children’s classrooms and fundraising for Church of the Good Shepherd Pre-School and Spreckels School.

My husband landed his current job with the Santa Lucia Preserve, and we moved to Carmel Valley in 2006. Our daughter, Kaylee, was going into 4th grade and our son, Adam, was starting Kindergarten. I dove in to this community getting involved as the PTO President, Spring Fling Chair, Bucks for Bobcats Founder, Operation Padre Chair, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish Council, Friends of Cachagua Children’s Center Advisory Chair, CMS Teacher Appreciation Lunch coordinator, multiple coaching positions, and Carmel High School Foundation Board Member. My efforts and volunteerism, awarded me the CUSD Board of Education, recipient of “Outstanding Volunteer Award” for exceptional and distinguished service in 2010 and 2015.

I started subbing for CUSD in 2007, both as a long and short term sub, which moved into a classroom and Special Education aide position. I’ve worked in every grade level K-8, and most specialist classrooms. I have done much work, throughout the district, for the last twelve years. Most notably, five years ago Marvin Biasotti asked me if I would take on a massive fundraising campaign to raise private funds to supplement the district’s budget to realize the build out of a multi-sports stadium. I coined the phrase “Operation Padre” and we were successful in raising $650,000 to make this dream a reality. Two months into the campaign, I lost my dear friend and Operation Padre Co-Chair, Tom Coppinger. I had to pick up the pieces and forge ahead without him. In addition, I have been instrumental in mobilizing the Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District, in partnership with the Friends of Cachagua Community Center, to build a sports field at the Cachagua Park. Through my connections, I acquired 25,000 square feet of donated material to help make this happen. We will be building the field at the end of October, with multiple community partners, and our students will finally get to play sports on a level playing field. In addition, for the last two summers I have facilitated a summer program for our Cachagua students. I’m also very involved in Carmel Valley High School, helping students partner with community members in vocational training through various connections on the Peninsula.

I am a passionate advocate for all children and helping them to realize their true passions and potential. I will always fight for what’s right for our students and continue to give back to this incredible community. I have been blessed and know this is my calling.
