Biography

Len Herman grew up in Pennsylvania, earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Temple University, and eventually became vice president of sales and marketing for a computer systems and software company. When a promotion brought him to California, he decided to stay.

Nearly twenty years ago, he and his wife Pat bought their home in Laguna Hills. As new homeowners often do, they began going to open houses in a quest for decorating ideas; and somewhere along the way, Len became intrigued with the real estate industry. In 2003, he earned his real estate license and became a REALTOR®.

Eight years later, Len was elected president of the Southern California Multiple Listing Service, where he was instrumental in effecting a merger between that Multiple Listing Service and the California Regional Multiple Listing Service as a means of eliminating duplication of effort, increasing efficiency, and providing better service to both REALTORS® and their home-seeking and home-selling clients.

Quiet, strong, introspective, and analytical, Len seeks to improve each situation he finds and to solve each problem he encounters. Currently, he is an appointed member of the Laguna Hills Traffic Commission and serves on the Board of Directors for Orange County REALTORS®. Members of that professional association chose him to be their president for 2013.

In addition to selling real estate and serving on a city commission, Len also finds time for a hobby or two. For seven years, he played hockey every Saturday in Anaheim, where his six-foot-three-inch frame made him an imposing defenseman. He loves photography and the ability Photoshop gives him to fix after the fact whatever did not happen right when he was taking the picture. And for many years, he has volunteered to support a number of community events, including the Laguna Niguel Holiday Parade.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

Nearly twenty years ago, my wife Pat and I bought our home in Laguna Hills. We chose this city because of its beauty and its family-friendly atmosphere. My primary goal as a member of the City Council will be to preserve all that is good about our city and to ensure that it remains strong and vibrant.

Toward that end, I will urge the City Council, acting in its dual role as City Council and Planning Commission, to

  • Regularly adopt a balanced budget and continue to live within its means
  • Support existing businesses and nurture new ones by creating an atmosphere in which businesses are welcome and can succeed
  • Maintain and improve city streets and roadways as necessary to maintain smooth traffic flow in the face of ever-increasing vehicle volume
  • Continue to offer a wide variety of sports, educational, and cultural programs and activities at the Laguna Hills Community Center
  • Beautify our parks, open spaces, and trails so that individuals and families find pleasure and enjoyment in them
  • Encourage significant commercial renovation of the Laguna Hills Mall as a means of increasing municipal revenues and ensuring that funds are adequate to provide essential services and maintain our strong record of public safety
