My Top 3 Priorities

  • Balance OUSD Budget
  • Strong Neighborhood Schools
  • Teacher innovation

Profession:Educator, Community Organizer
Director, Advocacy and Community Engagement, Bay Area Schools (2016–current)

Xavier University of Louisiana Bachelor's, Political Science (2009)

As a survivor of education inequity, who grew up in similar circumstances to many students in the Flatlands of East Oakland, I know firsthand what it feels like to attend public schools that work and those that don’t, and understand what it means to fight for a high-quality education in my neighborhood. And I understand the impact of a great education: I am the first in my family to attend and graduate from college.

As a national award-winning teacher, I had the privilege to teach kids who were just like me, and give them the tools they needed to be successful in college and career.

As a community organizer, I have listened to and advocated alongside thousands of parents across the Bay Area and Oakland who tirelessly demand high-quality public education for their children.

I am running for OUSD School Board in District 6 because our families deserve a proven educator who understands children’s needs, elevates parent voice, and will invest in high-performing neighborhood schools on the Board of Education for Oakland. I have a unique set of experiences and skills that have prepared me to assume the role as District 6 Trustee at this particular moment in the District’s history.

If elected to be a Board member, my priorities will be to:

  • solve the district’s budget crisis;

  • create strong feeder patterns of neighborhood schools;

  • unite the district; and

  • provide schools with the freedoms and autonomies necessary to innovate.

I have dedicated my life and career to serving students and families in low-income communities and innovating education solutions, and I will continue advocating fiercely for students in my neighborhood.

This November, you have the power to decide whether we meet this goal in the next four years. You can WRITE MY NAME, Anthony Wilson, on the ballot as your District 6 candidate for Oakland School Board.

Unified District. Neighborhood Schools.
