My Top 3 Priorities

  • IMPROVE STUDENT/FACULTY SAFETY Implement Sheriff's classroom safety recs *RETURN OF RESOURCE OFFICER* Unsafe Parking lot needs lighting Creation of parental volunteer safety team at games Safety patrol for students running the UNSAFE wooded "Gasser"
  • Teachers should feel appreciated & fairly paid. Recent negotiations with the District did not achieve that goal. A teachers' rep should be invited as a non-voting participant in ALL stages of budget development, not just 11th hr contract negotiations
  • The ONLY metric which parallels student achievement is PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT. SYVUSD offers a fine array of CTE & academic courses, but is not tapping into the vast resources available through the eager & willingness of parental VOLUNTEERISM.

Profession:Medical Doctor & Surgeon
Medical Director, Santa Ynez Valley Plastic Surgery (2017–current)

University of Kansas; Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital; St. Francis Memorial Hospital, San Francisco. M.D., Medicine & Surgery (1984)

As a youth, I was an Eagle Scout. I studied at the Univ. of Kansas, earning degrees in Biology and Microbiology. Today, I am a medical doctor and surgeon, having trained at Santa Barbara Cottage Hosp. I have been an educator of young physicians and nurses. I am a U.S. Navy veteran, Commander. I am married to Suzanne. We are highly involved parents, our youngest child a junior at SYVUHS. I am also an author; my favorite topic being vintage motorcars. I am the automotive writer for one of the local newspapers. Though this is my first run for public office, it is not my first experience with membership on a Board of Directors. I have been on the Boards of two healthcare facilities and two 501(c)3 corporations. I am a conservative Christian.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

Though I am a conservative, public School Boards are by design, non-political entities. My positions on any particular topic will not be influenced by my personal views on faith or politics. Outside of the family, there is no singular entity, which has more power to positively affect our youth than mentor-teachers/coaches and especially the Boards of Education. Any Board needs to foremost be responsive to the desires of the community; specifically the families the school district serves. Too often Boards take the path of least resistance, adopting measures promoted by governmental organizations. A healthy Board will involve the local community, soliciting their views, and not fear taking the path less traveled.

The issues and controversies any board member shall be confronted are many and cannot be anticipated. The assurance and oath I can offer all is this, I shall make no decision; cast no vote unless I can answer in the affirmative, "IS IT GOOD FOR THE CHILDREN".
