My Top 3 Priorities

  • Emergency preparedness - particularly fire safety for our Canyon
  • reserve study - we appear to have significant savings, but we won't know what is safe to spend until we have our liabilities confirmed in writing
  • Identify ways to improve the community we call home

I have the privilege of being born and raised in the same Rancho Embarcadero home I now live in. I remember a time when there were fewer homes, lots more horses, and water in the creek year round! While some things changed in the 25 years I was away, what I hope never changes is the sense of community. Neighbors try to help each other, keep an eye on what's going on, and are quick to offer a hand when they can. Sometimes the neighborhood grapevine mixes up a few details of a story, but it is always told with good intentions. I love that we have well-attended events at the community center, kids who play in the creek, and regular walkers who say hello to each other. We have busy lives, but it doesn't stop anyone from being friendly and I want to keep that special small town country feeling Rancho Embarcadero has. We are a hidden gem of Goleta for sure and I love living here.

For those who are interested, I am a past-president of a homeowners association in Pasadena, volunteered for the EPOA group in the Canyon, and have attended EMID meetings for a few years now (often as the only non-board member in the room!) I often talk to residents during my daily walks about the Canyon with my golden retriever and many of you know my boys who race tinfoil boats in the creek, and build tree houses and other forts too. Somehow they never seem to have time to walk the dog though! I attended Claremont McKenna College and later Bowling Green State University in Ohio for a masters degree where I lived in and supervised an all-male fraternity house. That was definitely a learning experience. I volunteer with the Ellwood PTA, help students identify and apply to colleges, and am a member of Toastmasters public speaking organization.  I am passionate about education both in and out of the classroom.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

This is amusing since we are such a small community! My political philosophy is to serve residents in a responsible way. I believe in strong communication, openness about decisions, and economic responsibility. I know we won't all agree on every issue, but we can't begin to solve our problems if we don't have civil and honest discussion. Let's avoid the "gotcha's" and instead look for shared ground and way to serve and respect our neighbors.
