Biography

My family and I moved to Santa Ynez in 1998.

Over the last 20 years, my wife and I raised our son and daughter and watched them graduate from local schools. We have been active citizens in the valley, supporting and protecting the rural live style that brought us to the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley.

For the past 4 years I have served as a Trustee of ID#1.

I graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, with a degree in Natural Resources Management.  I also completed graduate studies toward a M.S. in Regional Resource Planning from Colorado State University

With this education I became a Forester for the US National Forest Service, serving on 3 national forests.  As a Forester/Fire Management Officer for over 35 years I managed thousands of acres of forested lands.  Watershed management was a primary concern in all management plans that I developed through the National Environment Protection Act (NEPA) directions and guidelines.

As a Fire Management Officer, I managed a large national fire suppression organization ranging from 100 to 400 employees, 30 fire engines, 4 helicopters, 3 hotshot crews, 1 air tanker base, 2 fire dozers.

During my career, I participated on several Interagency Incident Management Teams.  The Teams managed emergency incidents throughout the country from floods, wildfires and other natural disasters.  My position as Air Operations Branch Director required me to coordinate all aviation assests (Helicopters/Air Tankers/Recon Planes) and air bases.

I've also had the experience of one full term on the ID#1 Water Board learning the complex inner workings of managing a rural water district.  This experience has taught me that it is more than digging wells and laying pipe.  The legal issues are complex and critical to management and protection of our Valley's water rights for the benefit of the customers and the future of the Valley.

Water is the life blood of Our beautiful Valley and without it, our quaint communities will lose the rural life style that brought us all here.
