My Top 3 Priorities

  • Teacher Support - The quality of a school district depends on what happens between teacher and student. We must value and prioritize our teachers, keeping the best teachers in our district. MHUSD is failing to retain too many new teachers.
  • Board Leadership - Amazing things can be accomplished for our children when a school board is effective. I have experience and expertise, having been an MHUSD trustee for two terms during an era of productivity and progress on the board and District.
  • Educational Choices - A focus in our schools on language arts and math is essential but science, history, and the arts are also needed to provide our children a broad educational foundation. Our community benefits from providing these choices.

I grew up in New York and attended Cornell University where I received a degree in Economics. After graduation I moved to California, and I have lived in Morgan Hill for over 30 years. I have over 35 years experience in the tech industry, retiring this year from IBM where I was a software product manager.

I have been married to Elizabeth for 30 years. She is a retired software engineer and active volunteer with several non-profit organizations in the community. Our daughters, Alexandra and Emily, attended MHUSD schools K-12 and are now young adults. Alexandra is a social worker living in Morgan Hill, and Emily is an economist in Philadelphia.

In addition to my extensive management experience with IBM, I have held several leadership and volunteer roles in the Morgan Hill community. I was a Morgan Hill School Board trustee 2004-2012, including two terms as MHUSD Board President. I have been on the South Valley Civic Theatre (SVCT) Board for many years, including two terms as Board President. I am currently President of Congregation Emeth, the South Valley Jewish community. I also volunteer regularly in an MHUSD elementary school classroom.

During my prior terms on the School Board, we accomplished a great deal for the children of the district including:

- Opening Sobrato High School

- Creating Jackson Academy of Math and Music (as a magnet school)

- Launching the Dual Immersion Program

- Aligning our high schools’ curriculum with the CSU/UC entrance requirements

- Creating scheduled dedicated collaboration time for teachers

- Negotiating a rigorous and fair teacher evaluation process

- Balancing the budget despite the great recession

- Passing a construction bond which  is still in use for the rebuilding of Britton Middle School

- Building solar power systems at the high schools

- Improving the district’s bond rating through effective financial management

Through my MHUSD leadership experience, I have knowledge of how to get things done in our schools, and I bring a track record of accomplishment in our district.
