At a young age, Lorena Corona has become a known California grassroots advocate. She was born in Sacramento, California and is the third of six children of an immigrant Mexican-American family. When she was seven months old her family moved to Jalisco, Mexico. In 1997, she returned to the United States as a single mother, unable to speak English, unemployed, and afraid. Inspired by these obstacles, Lorena enrolled at the San Bernardino Adult School to learn English. In less than a year she transferred to Chaffey Community College to continue her higher education journey. Within five years, she earned five Associate Degrees and served as President and Student Trustee for two terms. From 2005 to 2010, Lorena attended Harvard University, where she earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Management. Since her return, Lorena has been dedicated to giving back to our community.

Lorena has made a significant difference in our community, serving as a school board member for Fontana Unified from 2012 – 2016. She also serves on several local and national governing boards ranging from mental health initiatives to alumni associations. Regionally, she has dedicated endless hours of pro bono work addressing safety, education inequality, scholarship opportunities, housing insecurity, food insecurity, leadership development, economic development, job creation, and advocating for fair local, state and federal immigration policies.

Lorena understands the struggles our community faces; she has had to overcome them herself. Her skills, passion, and determination make her an inspirational leader for us all.
