My diverse career aligns well with the responsibiliites of the Ventura County School Board.  I have been a high school teacher and an elementary school teacher. I worked 20 years in professional development and training.  For the last 12 years, I was Senior Director of Operational Excellence at Baxter Inc.   This background in both the classroom and business will be key to addressing the responsibilities of a trustee who must be able to judge budgets, evaluate curiculum proposals, build dashboard to monitor performance and understand how the county's role in education can help our kids build the skills needed for a productive career.

My time in business has taught me 3 major lessons about leadership and stewardship. First, you need to engage all stakeholders and perpectives to come to a good decision and make sure that decision is well implemented.   I will reach out to all sides of an issues before deciding.

Secondly, progress is made incrementally.   You need to focus on doable change to improve large organizations.   I beleive that step by step we can make meanignful change in our children's education.  More apprenticeships and more teachers are both stesp we need to take to ensure our children can compete in the modern economu.

Lastly, I will manage tax dollars effectively.  Having worked in business, I will manage our investments and our budget to ensure we get the most impact for our dollars.
