Biography

My name is Rick Miller and I'm running to represent you on the Rocklin Unified School Board.  As a parent of two Rocklin High students and the husband of a speech therapist at Rocklin Elementary, I'm running because I have spent almost my entire career in public education and feel I can give back to our community through service on the board.

I started my career at the US Department of Education before I returned home as a Deputy State Superintendent at the California Department of Education.  Between, I gained private sector experience working at Microsoft Corporation. I am currently a partner/owner of a small education policy firm where I work with school districts throughout California, improving public education by learning from each other and sharing best practices.

I am active in our community having coached over 25 Rocklin youth sports teams.  I'm a member of the Rocklin Chamber of Commerce and currently participate in their Leadership series.  I've also been involved in our schools by volunteering on numerous RUSD committees such as the Strategic Planning and LCAP working groups.

I believe my long-term community involvement is why I'm endorsed by the Mayor and members of the City Council, by Placer County Superintendent Gayle Garbolino-Mojica, as well as the entire current Rocklin School Board.  I'm endorsed by teachers and leaders of Parent Teacher clubs as well as business owners, seniors and community members.

My priorities include:

  • Rebuilding the relationship between our teachers and administration
  • Safety
  • Fiscal Discipline
  • Offering more personalized learning for each Rocklin student
  • Helping educators collaborate more
