Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

Almost every organization, political, social, faith-based, public, or private, is born as a grassroots idea responding to a clear need. The grassroots founders know each other, and their communities. They are issue-focused, community-powered, and driven by their kind respect for each other.

As any organization ages and grows, it changes. The founders get old and move on. The organization takes on a life of its own, with a board, bylaws, rules, and money. Old organizations, such as school boards, often lose deep meaningful relationships with their grassroots.

There are two kinds of political power in civil society. The first is money, the second is people. Getting money is always easier than getting people, especially when the organization has the power to tax. Restoring the lost links to the grassroots is much more difficult.

I am dedicated to working with neighborhood groups, faith-based organizations, unions, and you, to restore grassroots power to your School Board.
