Nicole Jones is a graduate of California State University, Long Beach where she earned a B.S in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Law Enforcement.  Nicole received her Master of Science in Counseling from San Diego State University, and is currently pursuing her PhD in Leadership Studies with an Emphasis in Higher Education at the University of San Diego.

Nicole has 14 years’ experience in the California Community College system, specifically in Region X.  In 2004, Nicole began her professional career with California Community Colleges at the San Diego Community College District.  Once a SDICCCA intern and an adjunct counselor, Nicole rose through the academic ranks to become an Associate Professor at Cuyamaca College in 2013.  That same year, Nicole also took on the responsibility as department chair for the counseling services division.  She was elected unanimously for two consecutive two year terms by her faculty peers.  As a community college faculty member, Nicole was instrumental in the following:

·       Proving counseling, guidance and mental health services to students to promote persistence and retention

·       Developing and administering the Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) and matriculation activies that include orientation, assesment, advising, educational planning, and follow up services – the first round of performance based funding

·       Knowledge of and interpretation for the AFT contract which included being the lead discipline expert representing counseling faculty at the negotiation table

·       AFT Department Liaison

·       Teaching Personal Development Courses

As the current Dean of Counseling Services at Cuyamaca College, Nicole provides oversight for over 4 million dollars in SSSP, categorical and general fund allocations, and provides supervision for EOPS, CalWORKs, CARE, CAYFES, DSPS and High School Outreach and Community Relations.  Nicole has a solid history of working collaboratively with faculty and classified unions; CSEA and AFT.  She is currently a part time lecturer at San Diego State University in the Community Based Block Program.  She has collaborated with faculty, administrators and staff to refine programs and services within the institution by:

·       Providing leadership in the areas of program planning, review and design

·       Identifying and advocating for institutional needs such as creating and funding faculty positions

·       Increasing the SSSP allocation by 10%

·       Serving as a primary coordinator of efforts related to dual enrollment which yielded approximately 30 sections of various courses in the local high schools

·       Collaborating with administators, faculty and staff across the campus community

·       Serving as an accreditation tri chair and writing team member

·       Working on the Achieving the Dream college planning team to plan and develop activites

·       Implementing Guided Pathways

Nicole resides in Chula Vista with her husband, Delano and children, Christian, a proud Southwestern College Jaguar, and Victoria, a third-year student at California State University Dominguez Hills.
