Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

I believe that all students have great potential and can be successful if provided the right opportunities.  During my 24 years in education, I have always advocated in providing opportunities for students to thrive and achieve their individual potential and goals.   Academics are a very important part of a child’s educational experience, however, equally important is developing the "whole" child.   As a Board Member and a life-long educator, I have always advocated in providing students experiences that help them realize and develop their individual potential and skills.  I strongly believe in exposing students to visual and performing arts, organize sports, and to teach students to think critically and to encourage them to become life-long learners.

In my experience, I also know that for students to be successful they need to be in a school where they feel safe (physical and emotional).  I will continue to advocate and support a school-culture where all students, staff, and parents feel safe, welcomed, included, respected, and valued.

Learning happens in the classroom.  That is why it is critical that teachers are supported and provided with the right resources.   I also believe that we must work together with our parents.  During my tenure as a board member, we have increased parent participation and collaboration with schools and district.  I have always strongly supported parent involvement and will continue working with our parents to help us reach common goals through collaboration and synergy.

Fiscal accountability and transparency are essential at school districts.  During my tenure, Chula Vista Elementary School District has maintained a healthy budget.  This has been possible by focusing on the needs of students, having transparency, and asking the tough questions regarding budget and spending.

I am committed to continue working with all stakeholders and execute my duties with diligence and integrity.  I believe in the potential of all children and I know that positive change is a collective endeavor.
